A new event planning group has started Wi-Co, short for Wireless Community – lead by industry luminaries Peter Mackenzie and Alan Blake. Their goal is to bring together people involved in the Wireless LAN community to come together and meet, break bread, learn from each other, and generally have a good time together.
To this end, they are organizing local events around the world to help meet their plan to give some energy and support to the community.
They usually host a one-day social event in various cities, but this last week they hosted their first two-day event in Manchester UK. They had loads of support from 11 vendors who sponsored the show and hosted a great event in a good venue right by the city-center train station.
There was a good mix of experienced presenters sharing their knowledge, mixed with vendor presentations, additionally they purposely had speaking slots for newcomers to bring in some new blood to share their Wireless LAN experiences as well. Some of the new speakers really knocked it out of the park!
If you have a chance to attend a Wi-Co meeting… please save the space in your busy calendar. You won’t regret supporting your community… in fact, you could/should be one of the speakers yourself!
